On June 26, the college and Wuchuan Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Wuchuan") organized a discussion and exchange activity involving engineering master's and doctoral students as well as supervisors from both sides, focusing on the talent cultivation practice and planning of the "Wuchuan Excellence Class", to promote the joint cultivation of engineering master's and doctoral students and discuss the new future of school-enterprise collaborative education.
The "Wuchuan Excellence Class" is an important achievement of both sides in deepening the integration of industry and education and innovating talent cultivation models. At present, the 2023 cohort of students from the "Wuchuan Excellence Class" has completed one year of practical learning in the enterprise, accumulating rich engineering practice experience; the 2024 cohort is about to enter the enterprise to start a new journey of practical learning. This discussion aimed to build a better cultivation platform for students and further improve the effectiveness of joint cultivation.
At the forum, Secretary Wang Qifeng of the college affirmed the efforts made by both the school and the enterprise in the joint cultivation work, emphasizing that the university attaches great importance to the "Wuchuan Excellence Class" talent cultivation project. He hoped that through in-depth school-enterprise cooperation, more high-level engineering talents with both theoretical literacy and practical innovation capabilities would be cultivated for the shipbuilding industry. Vice Dean Cheng Xide gave a detailed introduction to the progress of the joint cultivation at the current stage, shared the successful experience and innovative measures in the cultivation process, and put forward optimization directions for the subsequent cultivation plan.
In his speech, Vice President Yan Rui of Wuchuan pointed out that the enterprise has high expectations for the students of the "Wuchuan Excellence Class", hoping that they can fully apply their knowledge to practical work and grow into industry backbones through practice in the enterprise. At the same time, he stated that Wuchuan will fully provide students with good practical conditions and development space, deepen cooperation with the university, and jointly promote the joint cultivation project to a higher level.
In addition, both sides also conducted in-depth communication on the postdoctoral mobile station, discussing how to further strengthen the in-depth integration of industry, education, and research through postdoctoral research projects, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and inject new impetus into technological innovation in the shipbuilding industry.
In the free exchange session, students, school supervisors, and enterprise supervisors had close interactions. Students shared their gains and confusion in practical learning in the enterprise, while school and enterprise supervisors provided careful guidance and suggestions from aspects such as academic research and practical ability improvement in response to the students' problems and development needs. School and enterprise supervisors also conducted in-depth discussions on training objectives, curriculum settings, and practical links, providing new ideas for optimizing the training plan.
The successful holding of this discussion and exchange activity has further clarified the direction and focus of the joint cultivation of engineering master's and doctoral students in the "Wuchuan Excellence Class", and strengthened the collaborative linkage between the school and the enterprise in talent cultivation and scientific research cooperation. In the future, the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Energy Power Engineering of Wuhan University of Technology and Wuchuan will continue to deepen cooperation, constantly improve the joint cultivation mechanism, cultivate more outstanding engineering and technical talents for the high-quality development of China's shipbuilding industry, and contribute wisdom and strength to the innovative development of the industry.
