On the morning of July 27, a delegation including Gan Zhipin, Vice Dean of the Undergraduate Academy; Wang Chong, Vice Dean of the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Energy Power Engineering; Li Chunmei, Deputy Party Committee Secretary of the School; Yang Zhiyong, Lead Professor of Marine Engineering; and Xu Meng, Director of the Student Affairs Office, visited the Huangpi Mulan Water Training Base to warmly greet and express their appreciation to the teachers and students participating in the seafarer certification training program.
Under the scorching summer sun, students on the training ground maintained high morale and actively participated in the exercises. The delegation first observed training modules including proficiency in lifeboat and raft operations, personal survival, and advanced firefighting. Under the instructors’ guidance, the students performed standardized procedures such as lifeboat release, platform diving, and fire extinguishing drills with precise and efficient movements. Subsequently, the visiting team inspected student and faculty dormitories, the base cafeteria, and theoretical training classrooms to gain a comprehensive understanding of the base’s infrastructure, teaching conditions, logistical support, and daily life of participants.

Gan Zhipin spoke highly of the students’ active participation in the professional training and their commitment to enhancing their expertise. He encouraged them to cherish this valuable opportunity, diligently acquire professional skills, and lay a solid foundation for their future careers in the maritime industry. Li Chunmei showed warm concern for the students’ living conditions, reminding everyone to take precautions against heatstroke and ensure their health and safety during training in high-temperature weather. She also expressed gratitude to the coaching team for their dedicated instruction. Yang Zhiyong discussed student management during the training period with the faculty, emphasizing the importance of safety measures for all participants. He highlighted the need to prevent sudden incidents such as heatstroke and to ensure the successful completion of the training program.

During lunch, the delegation visited the student cafeteria and engaged in friendly conversations with the students. Wang Chong commended the students for their dedication to training despite the extreme heat, encouraging them to make the most of this practical learning opportunity and master professional skills thoroughly. He emphasized integrating the university’s motto of “Pursue Excellence with Integrity and Erudition” into every aspect of their training to build a strong foundation for their future careers.

The College places high importance on practical education for its maritime programs. Since July, undergraduate students from the Class of 2023 in the Marine Engineering program have been divided into three groups to undergo practical seafarer certification training at the Huangpi Mulan Water Training Base. During the training period, the students will complete four modules: Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Firefighting, Advanced Firefighting, and Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats.
